Pollinator Project
Feb 23, 2022
Rotary has been approached with an exciting opportunity to provide pollinator habitat within a Renew the Block project being organized by Habitat for Humanity. The Environmental Committee of the Rotary Club of La Crosse - Downtown started looking more into this possibility by learning more about the project, creating a budget and getting the project approved by Rotary Works. We are looking to raise $16,057 for the preparation, volunteer education, plants, and installation of the pollinator sites as well as funding for a classroom to be part of Operation Pollination. Habitat for Humanity will provide funding for the signs for the site that include the Rotary logo and the surrounding landscaping. These pollinator plots are about one-tenth of the overall project. Rotary Works has already committed $2000. I can send a rendering of the project. The project is on the block of Lincoln Middle School and on Habitat for Humanity houses. This would be a really fun project to work on together. I also am dreaming of organizing a trip down to Mexico for local Rotary members to see the butterflies migrate with our partners in Operation Pollination. |
