Greetings, Valley View Rotary family and friends!!!

Happy Father's Day

I want to share some thoughts on this special day on the roles that both Father's AND Mother's play, not just on their respective days of recognition, but each and every day.  These roles don't only exist when children are younger but extend throughout our children's lifetime.  As we recognize our father's today, let's consider taking more time to appreciate and celebrate the roles we model from their teaching:

- Nurturing: Both fathers and mothers provide love, care, and support to their children, helping them grow and thrive.
- Guidance: Parents give guidance and direction to their children, helping them navigate the complexities of life in order to (hopefully) make good decisions.
- Role models: Parents serve as role models for their children, exemplifying positive behaviors and values that can shape their children's development and character.
- Providers: Both fathers and mothers provide for their families, whether through financial support, household management, or other means.
- Advocates: Parents advocate for their children, ensuring their needs are met and their voices are heard.
- Mentors: Parents serve as mentors and teachers to their children, sharing knowledge, skills, and experiences to help them succeed in life.
- Community builders: By raising their children with strong values and a sense of responsibility, parents contribute to building a strong, supportive community.

Thank you for everyone that attended last week's meeting with Deletrie Roshawn.  It was inspiring to hear him share his story and introduce his recently published book.  As I mentioned in ringing the closing bell, I hope everyone is taking the advice of Deletrie's mom and overfilling their cups this week in order to be in a position to give to others.

Please join us this week to hear Sierra Lyon share information on the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals care for 1-in-10 children in our country, and Gundersen Health is one of them.  CMN helps kids in our 25-county service area fighting medical battles, no matter where they receive care.

Moon Tunes 2023

Moon Tunes is growing bigger than ever this year! On stage this Thursday is Iron Still & TUGG. Volunteer Sign-ups can be found by clicking here.

Moon Tunes is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator that can complete the sign-ups for the remaining concerts.  We also need a Leader and someone to transport the trailer for this week's concert.

As our Club's largest fundraiser, you are encouraged to help pass the bucket if you find yourself at the Park and not officially signed up.  Thank you for all your help and enjoy as WE... ROCK... THE... PARK... and raise more funds to accomplish more in our community!!!!!

Tina Sharpe-Antony

Asking for prayers, positive thoughts and healing energy for friend and Rotarian, Tina Antony. She was an active member of our club until she moved away. During her time with us she was a very active member and always had a smile and a kind word. While she was in our club, she had cancer and being a rather private person, she shared it with very few of us.

Unfortunately, her cancer has returned and is possibly spreading. Please send her a message on Facebook and wish her well. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks so much.

  • Work gloves
  • Wire cutter (if you have one)
  • Throw away plastic bag to collect the zip ties
  • Sunscreen and/or bug spray (optional)
  • A smile
  • An extra truck or trailer would be helpful.

Seeking Raffle Items for our Golf Outing Fundraiser

Auction items should have a value of at least $20, but higher is better :)

Prizes for golfers should come in a quantity of 4 (4 players per team), such as 4 gift cards of the same value.  A dozen golf balls works well since there are 4 sleeves per box.

Raffle items should be worth at least $100 but again, higher is better ;)

We would like to to have 3 to 5 items with values ranging from $200 to as much as $500.  We already have a quilt (value at least $500) and will likely arrange a golf specific item.

College Football, NFL or equivalent tickets are a good draw also!!!

Thank you for your continued support of this fundraiser that generated $9,000 in profits last year that we were able to donate to the Children's Hospital of Tanzania and the La Crosse Boys and Girls Club.

Not a golfer you say... and want to be involved in this amazing charitable experience to help us make an even bigger impact this year?  Please see Bob Newberry or me and we will find a way for you to help grow this event!

Kenya October 2023 Mission Opportunity

Past Rotarian and Friend of Valley View Rotary, Fred Nicklaus, is seeking persons interested in joining him on a trip to Kenya in October to assist Henry Johanga (who visited us last Winter) and his wife who have committed their lives to educating and feeding children at his school, The Anointed Community Academy. Henri ministers to over 300 children and also employs 9 teachers and 2 other staff members. These are children who otherwise would not receive an education or have regular meals each day. Henri’s commitment is changing many young lives in a powerful way  every day. anointedcommunityacademy.org

The Aquinas Interact Club has taken on this project as one of their projects and have already begun raising funds.

The itinerary for this trip can be found on Club Runner at: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/11962/Documents/en-us/fa939b8e-3cd5-45fc-803d-77bd1804d8aa/1/.
