Three receive Paul Harris Awards: Nuttall, Dunnum, Jaekel
Three Rotarians were recognized at the May 27 meeting for accomplishments and service, and for living up to Rotary’s “Service Above Self” motto. Those earning Paul Harris awards included:
Bruce Nuttall
Bruce attended Western Technical College before starting to work in the welding industry.
After college, Bruce worked at Randall-Graw Company before heading to Mississippi Welders Supply in 1986, where he was involved with many facets of the business. During his 37- year tenure there, he was in charge and managed several new divisions, including fire services, industrial vending, beverage bases and automation.
After retiring in 2022, Bruce became more involved in Valley View Rotary, which he joined in 2019. Along with being the principal owner of Red Dragon Studio where he designs and builds metal arts and sculptures, he’s been very involved in the club, including service as the 2025-26 president. Bruce earned his first Paul Harris Fellowship.
Kate Dunnum
Kate was born and raised in the Minneapolis suburb of St. Louis Park. She graduated from Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School in 1988 before heading to UW-Eau Claire, graduating there in 1992. Kate came to La Crosse for a sales position at WXOW-TV. Since leaving that position 25 years ago, Kate has worked with volunteers, first as a campaign director for Great Rivers United Way, and eventually in Volunteer Services at Mayo Clinic Health System.
Kate joined Valley View Rotary Club in 2002 and served as president in 2005-06. She has led Valley View’s Club Service efforts and is the person who is always leading efforts to send cheery messages and cards to members through the Sunshine Committee.
For her many community efforts, Kate was named 2024 Mrs. Oktoberfest. She received her Paul Harris +1.
Ed Jaekel
Ed, an Aquinas High School graduate, completed college at UW-La Crosse in 1992, and then worked at Wipfli in Marshfield before returning to La Crosse. He was a partner at Gillette and Associates before becoming a partner designate at Hawkins and Ash. In 2002 he became a managing partner of JRM CPAs in Onalaska, which specializes in small to mid-sized accounting and income tax services.
Along with serving as our club’s president in 2000, Ed has been active in numerous club fundraisers and budgeting matters. He is a vital link to the financial handlings for Moon Tunes. His other civic volunteering has included the United Way and the La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce. Ed received his Paul Harris +8.

Mississippi Valley Archeological Center on UWL Campus
See notes below and map for parking instructions
(directly north of Cartwright)
I have attached a map of the UWL campus, which shows the Archaeology Center & Laboratories as #11 in the bottom right corner. There is no immediate parking adjacent to the building. Most of the college students have left for the summer, so there is free 1-hour parking along Campbell Road and additional 2-hour free parking along Vine Street. Parking would also be available in lots C-1, C-2, and C-9, although your members would have to download and pay for parking through a parking app.
