This Week's Speakers

Cameron Kiersch and Ishmael Dekrahn

Viterbo's “Free Cycle” Event

The above photo is a “core” group of the Viterbo Free Cyclers.

Cameron Kiersch is an Associate Professor at Viterbo University, where he chairs the Direct-Entry Master of Science in Nursing program. Dr. Kiersch is faculty advisor for students organizing Viterbo’s first annual FreeCycle event. Designed to reduce waste during campus move‑out, this event invites students and community members to donate gently used items and take what they need, free of charge.

Ishmael Dekrahn will be joining Dr. Kiersch. Ishmael is a graduating senior at Viterbo. He was instrumental in securing a grant from La Crosse Youth Climate Action and it was his proposal that is making Viterbo FreeCycle a reality.

Sue Weidemann earns Paul Harris +7

Longtime Valley View member Sue Weidemann received her Paul Harris Fellow +7 at the Wednesday, March 18, meeting. Fellow Rotarian Brad Quarberg presented the award.

Sue has been member of our club since 1991. She has served as club president and held an array of club titles, including host mom, avid volunteer, website originator, Christmas party organizer and more.

Professionally, Sue has decades of work in marketing and more, including the La Crosse Area Builders Association, Midwest Toyota, ASA Racing, and the La Crosse Radio Group.

From 2003-2022, she ran her own marketing business, HERA Marketing, to help small businesses with creative marketing ideas, media planning, and basic websites.

In retirement, Sue continues to use marketing skills and more, running Pipestone Point, a fishing resort in Canada. With her husband, Mike, she has revitalized a long-time family business into a successful resort on the Lake of the Woods.

Sue loves family and loves to volunteer. She’s known for her love of Christmas and was Oktoberfest’s 2016 Mrs. O.

Congratulations, Sue!

Rotary Supports Our Sister City
Rotary Works Foundation approved a grant for $525 to the Jack & Kathy Lucey Family Alzheimer’s Fund. The grant was used to purchase 3 robotic therapy dogs for Alzheimer's patients. Valley View Rotary member Shari Laffredi wrote the grant request. This shows the solid support Rotary has for our La Crosse Sister City organization and Bantry. It would be nice to see a few Valley View Rotary members in attendance next Saturday.

We are seeking host families in the West Salem School district for our high school age international exchange student Aug 2026-July 2027. The exchange period is split between 3 host families so about 3 1/2 months per family. This is a life enriching experience for both the host families and the student.

"Hosting pushes us outside the regular hum-drum of daily life. We are more likely to go to activities, visit cities, museums—all fun! And we appreciate learning about the student, their culture, and language."
