Membership Newsletter, Aug. 23, 2023

I’m kicking this newsletter off by congratulating Tom Sahlstrom, our Rotarian of the Year: this is a well-earned tribute to a dedicated club member and Rotarian. Tom’s efforts with growing Moon Tunes sponsorships have been amazing—and very successful.

Valley View Rotary did not bring home any other awards at Avenues of Service, but as Janie pointed out to me, some remarkable projects were being recognized. And as Sandy commented: “We know who we are.” Yes, we do! And I couldn’t be prouder of this club.

After last week’s meeting, Shari Lafreddi shared with me that our presenter, Sue Kastensen, was very impressed by how friendly we were with each other and how much camaraderie she saw. I had the same experience with Valley View Rotarians when I first came to give a presentation over five years ago. You weren’t just nice to me, the guest; you were nice to each other. It made an impression, and now I am still blessed to be a member of Valley View Rotary.

Bricks for Babies Fundraiser
The preliminary numbers are in, and with a few outstanding checks, the golfers and their supporters have topped $8,000 for kids in the Coulee Region and in Tanzania. Wow!
The breakdown is $1,024 for the Boys and Girls Club and $7,029 for the Children’s Hospital of Tanzania. Given the rising costs involved, this is an outstanding outcome. Kudos to all who participated.

Alpaca Pancake Breakfast
Last week Phil Waselik, president of Rotary After Hours, visited and offered tickets to their upcoming event, the Alpaca Pancake Breakfast. If you were interested but unable to commit to tickets, you can purchase them online at https://rb.gy/47ra3. Pancakes and alpacas may not seem like a logical combination, but for kids, it’s sheer genius. I’m going to bring my seven-year-old granddaughter.

Maui Fires Relief Fund
Once again, I am including the link for you to make donations to the Hawaii Rotary District’s Maui Fires Relief Fund: https://rb.gy/5vrnb.

Club Assembly
It’s here! We are not having a speaker this Wednesday but instead will break out into our committees to review and plan for the future. Club membership lists will be on the tables. Or refer to last week’s newsletter to see who your people are. Have a great week, and see you Wednesday.
