Membership Newsletter August 2, 2023

Thank you, Volunteers!

In the last two weeks, VVR members have stepped up to manage a Red Crosse Blood Drive, deliver seven days of Mobile Meals, and staff Moon Tunes every Thursday with at least nine volunteers. And that's not counting the hours Terry and others put in before, during, and after the event.
That is an impressive number of volunteer hours--and I am probably forgetting someone! I am always proud to say I am a Valley View Rotarian, and more so than ever right now.

Rotary Avenues of Service Dinner
This Wednesday, Aug 2nd, is the deadline to register for the Avenues of Service dinner. It will be on Aug 16 in the Cargill Room. If you forgot to register or are rethinking your decision not to attend, you still have time!
Make your meal choice and reserve your place at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0944adab23a5fdc61-avenues#/

Moon Tunes Signup
Several people have told me they can't find the link to the signup list for the second half of the summer. This is because there are two links to Moon Tunes under Events on the right-hand side of this newsletter, and only one takes you to the correct signup page. The second link, "Moon Tunes 2nd Half Aug 17," will take you to the signup list starting on Aug 10. (I've tried to correct this, with no luck.)

A more straightforward approach that will always work for all club volunteer signups is the following path:
Log into the Members Only section of ClubRunner. There will be two toolbars across the top of the page. On the upper one, click on the heading "Volunteers."
That will make the lower toolbar display Volunteer subheadings: click on the one titled "View Signup Lists." There you will see all active signup lists.

VVR Club Summer Picnic
Our Annual summer picnic is coming up!

Tan and Susan Pham’s backyard (or indoors if it rains!)
1309 Main St, La Crosse
Catered by Famous Dave's

Please RSVP and note if you plan to bring a dessert (we will need approximately a half-dozen pans/plates of goodies). Thank you!

Note: There will not be a morning meeting on the day of the picnic.

Host Families Needed for Luxembourg Students
Our Sister city for Junglinster, Luxembourg, will be hosting high school students from Luxembourg this upcoming August 20-September 15, 2023, and they are looking for help! They are seeking 5-6 families in the La Crosse area to host two students each (or singles would also work).

This community partnership is between Central High School, Aquinas High School, Luxembourg/American descendants of the La Crosse region, La Crosse/Junglinster Sister City, Viterbo University, and UW La Crosse. There will be a schedule of activities Monday through Friday and some weekends. They speak English very well but are also fluent in French, German, and Luxembourgish.

Please note that traditional families, non-traditional families, single people, roommates, and friends living together - any person or group who is willing to share daily life with an international student can be a host!

If you are interested in participating, please complete the host family survey as soon as possible. Surveys will be used to match students and families with like interests and needs. Survey: https://uwlax. ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ 82DEOH6rIyWnhZ4

Upcoming Club Assembly
Club Assembly is scheduled for August 16. Do you know what committees you serve on? At our meeting on July 19, there will be copies of committee assignments for you to review. If you wish to make any changes, please let me know ASAP (end of the week) so Brad can incorporate new information in the club directory he is updating.

Widget Woes
If you do not know what a widget is, count yourself lucky. If you are a recent former president, you are probably rolling your eyes and giving a prayer of thanks that you are done with them.
Half of this newsletter is created with widgets; when they work, they are a timesaver. But this week, they have decided to rebel, and what would have been a slightly late newsletter is now a very late one. I am sorry, and I promise to learn to better control my widgets.

Meeting Take Down
Take-down is October birthdays.

Playing Cards
Last week several people spoke up to say they could bring a deck of cards this week. Let's see how many read to the end of this newsletter and throw a deck in their car!
