Jan. 2, 2022
Happy New Year, Valley View Rotarians! I hope 2022 brings you all good things... and [finally] shows the pandemic the door. It will be interesting to see what we are saying about COVID-19 a year from now. Any wagers?
For 2022, let's all work to grow and enhance our Club by gaining engaged members, focusing on fun and fellowship and also giving continued consideration to our logistical needs. That may mean returning to the meeting location discussion (again, I know). Zoom as an option for meeting attendance by members, guests and speakers is here to stay. As we think about being "fair to all concerned" and adapting to the times, it's up for debate whether our current location is the best tech fit, although it has been a reliable, welcoming and cozy space for us for many years.
This week's speaker is our own Janie Morgan, who will be providing an update on RotaryWorks and all the good it does!
A few things:
-
We received a very nice thank-you note for our support of the foster children gift program from a Social Worker at La Crosse County (last name Barlow, I can't quite make out the first name): "Rotary, Thank you for the generous donation this year. Giving a little something special to all youth in foster care makes the holidays so much brighter. Merry Christmas!"
-
Also, Brad Quarberg passed on this related thank you from Nicholas Passe, a Downtown La Crosse Rotary Club member: Hello Valley View Rotary, I'm a member of the downtown La Crosse club but mistakenly was thanked for the gifts you sent to a foster kid for Christmas. Here is the message: "Deja got a gift basket today from her social worker. Said it was from Rotary Lights. It was very nice. She grinned from ear to ear. Thank you and please pass along that it is appreciated and makes a difference in making kids feel special."
-
Thank you to the following members who helped with the Red Cross Blood Drive last week: Tom Byerly, Tom Sahlstrom and Brad Quarberg. Brad notes that they reached the goal for the day!
-
Mark your calendars: Valley View Rotary will continue to co-sponsor Red Cross Blood Drives at Stoney Creek Inn, 3060 S. Kinney Coulee Road, Onalaska, in 2022. Dates for the 2022 drives are:

Donating the number of years at your birthday to the Rotary Foundation for Polio has become a club tradition. Just log in to My Rotary and click on donate. The participation has been truly awesome and given the average age of our club, this is a significant amount of money!
