This is my swan song! The final newsletter you'll get from me and the meeting on Wednesday will be my last as president. Be sure to Zoom in for a passing of the gavel like you've never seen before!
We will meet by Zoom on Wednesday and the rest of the summer remains to be seen. We are currently exploring the La Crosse Country Club as an option.
One advantage of meeting by Zoom is there are no meal costs, meaning our club costs, are a little less. Your most recent invoice will reflect the change: $60 for 85+ members and $90 for everyone else for the quarter April-June. If you have any questions, contact Jim Warren.
Speaking of money for food, when presented with a check for $1,000 from Valley View Rotary, Northside Elementary Principal Laura Huber was both elated and highly appreciative. The approximately $700 from the Rotary Disaster Response grant and another $300 from our club will be used to provide food for their families who are struggling financially during the pandemic.
The Rotary Works Board is also helping our local schools with these awards in June:
$800 - GROW La Crosse: To build a new garden for the La Crescent-Hokah Elementary School. The garden will be a learning place for kids at the school as well as supplying the school and La Crescent Food Shelf with some fresh vegetables. It will also create a defined learning space for students to learn and experience the garden together.
$1500 - La Crosse Public Education Foundation: Complete the purchase of books for elementary school classroom libraries in the La Crosse School District.
Thanks to Keli Frigo and Paul Hayden for serving as the Valley View representatives on this board.
INCYMI
Last week the club recognized four Rotarians for accomplishments and service to Rotary and society and their personal support of The Rotary Foundation. Those earning Paul Harris Fellow recognition included:
• Our first honoree received their first Paul Harris Fellowship. The person has been involved in numerous club projects, providing leadership particularly for the club service area, helping with the club’s partnership with LaCrosseRoads. This Rotarian has been a member of our club since September 2006. Our new fellow is Mark Glahn.
• Our next honoree has not been a member of our club very long, but has become very involved quickly. The person helps to organize our programs each week and is dean of the UWL College of Business Administration. She has been a member of our club since September 2017. Our new fellow +2 is Laura Milner.
• Our third honoree recently retired from his retirement job in pharmacy. He’s been a charter club president, not for our club — but for a sister club in Litchfield, Minnesota. He’s been a member of our club since November 2014. Receiving his Paul Harris +4 is Brad Teske.
• Our final honoree has been a Rotarian since 1997, but not in our club all those years. This Paul Fellow recently retired as a consultant with C-S-S International and has served as a Rotary president twice…with the Oshkosh Morning club and with our club in 2018-19. Our Rotarian earning her Paul Harris +6 is Julie Keitel.
Congratulations to all!!
