Memorial Day tomorrow! Even though there will be no parade passing right by my house, I will still put out my flags. One regular sized American flag and about 40 mini ones I have collected over the years. And no, I'm not putting a dollar in the Rotar Rooter fund for each of those flags!!
Speaking of Rotar Rooter, Jeremiah Mc Kinney, Polio Plus, the Rotary Foundation or any other Rotary-related cause you like to be a part of, the end of our fiscal year is June 30th. Since we won't be meeting in person, please mail your contribution to Jim Warren at PO Box 545, La Crosse, WI 54602-0545. As a reminder, Rotar Rooter funds are used as a club fundraiser, Jeremiah Mc Kinney helps support international students.
And speaking of our meetings over Zoom, I really enjoyed hearing last week how Kate Dunnum and Janie Morgan had gotten together and had a great time catching up six feet apart. Feel free to use that idea to get together with small groups of your own Valley View friends. If you're tired of having all meetings over Zoom, consider holding a committee meeting in your backyard or a park.
The Rotary Works Board met over Zoom, and Keli Frigo reports the following:
$1500 approved for the Holmen Community Center membership software program.
$2500 approved for Wheels of Hope to help purchase a bus for girls in Afghanistan to attend school.
One more week for the Rotary Food drive. Bring your donations to the parking lot near Barnes and Noble, the parking lot north of the County Law Enforcement Center, or the Big Lots Parking Lot on the south side on Fridays between 11 am and 1 pm.
We have so many wonderful Rotarians, it can be hard to think of who stands out. If you have someone you think deserves a little extra recognition, why not nominate them for one of the Avenues of Service Awards? Send your nominations to Heidi Blanke.
Onalaska Hilltopper is having a Pork Q on June 18 from 4-6:30 p.m. You can order online and pay ahead or simply show up at the event. Part of the money raised will support the Onalaska Regional Food Basket. More information can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/536259177262961/
Rotaryfest will be virtual this year - no need to drive to Fort Atkinson, you can attend only the sessions you are interested in. Check it out here: Rotaryfest2020
